Oral health is key to your overall health
Your mouth functions as one of the main gatekeepers of your overall health. It also serves as a vantage point for detecting early symptoms of systemic diseases.
Say hello to MyPerioPath
MyPerioPath by OralDNA Labs is an essential test to profile the oral bacteria that may cause periodontal disease and can lead to further health issues if left unaddressed.
These bacteria, especially as high levels, and in combination with your individual genetic inflammatory response, can result in bad breath, painful bleeding gums, loss of bone, and eventually, tooth loss. Further, leaving these bacteria untreated for years adds significantly to the risk of a wide range of illnesses & diseases beyond the mouth.
Below are some of those diseases and the measurable risk of those diseases becoming serious if these oral pathogens are not treated.

When I began working with Dr. Charny, she almost immediately recommended I try a GI-MAP test to see what might be causing my issues.
It’s pretty amazing how much Dr. Charny was able to read into my digestion from the results.
The results of the MyPerio test astounded me. I never knew the bacteria in my mouth could affect my energy levels and even my high blood pressure! Thanks Dr. Charny for ordering this test and explaining my results.
My hormones tested normal on other blood tests, but with the DUTCH test we were able to see how my hormones are working and responding to stress in action. It’s so cool that the test is taken throughout the day.
Thanks Dr. Charny for helping me get a handle on things.

Oral pathogens and your health
Below are some of those diseases and the measurable risk of those diseases becoming serious if these oral pathogens are not treated.
Cardiovascular Disease
There is consensus within the medical and dental professional organizations that periodontal bacteria contribute to the initiation, progression and prognosis of cardiovascular disease.
From key meta-analysis studies, persons with untreated periodontal infections have up to a 20% increase in their risk of coronary vascular disease.
Elevated levels of periodontal bacteria can directly cause hyperglycemia.
Long term, the inflammation associated with increased pathogen burden can affect the health of the pancreas.
Correspondingly, persons with elevated blood glucose are at risk for progressive periodontal infection and inflammation.
Early detection of periodontal infection and proactive management to reduce bacterial loads can improve blood sugar control and lessen the complications of diabetes as well as the consequence of periodontitis.
Metabolic Health & Diabetes
Health During Pregnancy
The oral microbiota changes when women become pregnant, and levels of periodontal pathogens increase.
During pregnancy, periodontal inflammation worsens, and there is a marked risk of infection of the maternal blood and the placenta. This may lead to increases in pre-term labor, lower birth weights and even the chance of fetal loss.
Further, the long-term risk for systemic disease in mothers with periodontitis is evident in the progression of atherosclerosis and the increased risk of venous thrombosis.
It may be wise to take the MyPerioPath® panel for women who are considering becoming pregnant, with the goal of reducing these bad bacteria.
Advanced periodontal disease is associated with a 2.5 fold increase in smoking related cancers.
Breast cancer is common, and persons with elevated levels of the bacteria A.a. and P.g. have a greater chance of recurrence or failed response to treatment.
In another prospective study, persons with periodontal P.g. showed a 59% increased risk of pancreatic cancer.
Reducing your risk of developing cancer by treating periodontal infection is another reason to try a MyPerioPath® test.
Development of Cancer & Risk of Progression
Joint & Musculoskeletal Health
Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory condition. In a recent meta-analysis of over 20 separate studies, there was a significantly increased risk of periodontitis in people with RA compared to healthy controls.
Importantly, the bacteria are typically found before the onset of symptoms. The good news is that therapeutic reduction of bacterial load, as determined by molecular tests such as MyPerioPath®, may reduce symptoms and improve the prognosis of the arthritis.
Recent medical studies point to poor oral health, and high levels of the bacteria in our gums with the increased risk to develop Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.
Specifically, there is now evidence that P.g. present in brain tissue and cerebrospinal fluid may be involved in the production of the abnormal proteins that are characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, the direct effects of those oral bacteria to cause atherosclerosis in the vessels within the brain impart significant risk for stroke and vascular types of dementia.
